An Interiors renovation of a 1,000 sq ft loft apartment in the heart of Hells Kitchen that stripped back the existing conditions to reveal the exposed concrete beams and ceilings overhead, and sanded and naturally stained floorboards underfoot. A minimalist aesthetic and deliberately limited material palette aimed to evoke serenity, calmness and a place of refuge from the noise and chaos of the streets of Midtown.

New, adaptable, flexible multi-purpose storage elements create unexpected office, study, sleeping and wardrobe moments. Alterations to the sleeping loft help create a warm contemporary cocoon of white oak, mostly hidden from view, but still allowing for views outwards and natural light inwards. The bathroom and vanity were completely refreshed as a spa-like experience of cloudy stone tiling with step down shower that doubles as a plunge bath-tub. The kitchen has a modern, urban bachelor pad feel of masculine stainless steel cabinetry, textured black island counter, walnut wall-mounted cabinets and muted understated porcelain floor tile. A new full-width feature window-seat facing south celebrates the ample sunshine throughout the day, and cleverly conceals the ubiquitous heating radiators behind. A series of window blinds help regulate light and heat, and a generous dining table anchors the long living space.

New smart-home LED lighting, ceiling fans and entertainment systems helps bring the industrial loft-space into the 21st Century.

Carefully selected contemporary and mid-century Scandinavian inspired lighting fixtures add geometric interest, subtle coloring and lighting effects across white-washed walls and lime-washed ceilings.
